Trucks for sale sitting at an all-time high on the back end of online retail and home delivery, prompting ANCAP crash testers to sort wheat (claimed) from vegetables – specifically where the driver-assist safety system is Equipment.

ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg added: “This analysis provides added value to fleets and commercial van operators as it goes beyond ANCAP’s traditional star rating program to illuminate demonstrates the active safety performance of an important segment.
“Vans is a workplace. Their greater exposure on the road and frequent use in congested urban areas means they interact with a greater number of other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.
“It is essential that fleets and van drivers are aware of the potential for collision avoidance and active safety features fitted to their vehicles.
“To help fleets, businesses and private consumers make informed purchasing decisions in this part of the market, we evaluated the performance of the available Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on a variety of commercial trucks.”
Except as otherwise indicated, trucks tested as part of this comparison were loaded to half of their total load capacity, ANCAP added. However, on fine print, it says not a best seller Toyota HiAce or Staria Load is loaded with any cargo.
Safety comparison looked at:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) from car to car
- AEB for pedestrians and cyclists
- Lane assist system, i.e. departure warning and active lane keeping assist
- Speed assist systems, such as manual speed limiters or map/camera based speed warnings, are often crucial in urban surroundings where cruise control is of little use. than
- Seat belt monitor
- Driver monitoring system
ADAS system performance has been tested regardless of whether the system is available as standard or optional. They are rated Good to Poor, with scores at Acceptable, Average, and Weak in between.
The test results section of the blind spot monitoring system report makes no mention, although they are analyzed in regular ANCAP crash reports.
Medium Trucks
In the best-selling midsize van with a total weight of 2500kg to 3500kg (GVM), the new Staria Load is the winner with an overall score of 90%, rated as ‘Platinum’. It scored the maximum ‘good’ rating with green coding in all six tested regions.
Two trucks are rated Gold, the Toyota HiAce (77%) and the Mercedes-Benz Vito (61%) – although ANCAP notes that the ongoing chip shortage means Vitos manufactured after November 2021 may There may be different specifications that may affect this rating.
A trio rated as Silver, next on the list, is Ford Transit Custom (58%), Volkswagen Transporter (55%), and Peugeot expert (44%). Peugeot a few weeks ago rolled out the side airbags and adaptive cruise control from the Expert due to semiconductor shortage.

Big truck
In the large van class GVM 3501kg to 8000kg, Ford Transit took the crown with a Gold rating and 63 percent.
It surpasses the best-selling, Silver-rated services Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (52%) and Volkswagen Crafter (44%). A score of 44% for the third-place winner barely bode well for the rest.
Bronze medal is Peugeot boxer (33%), Fiat Ducato (28%), LDV Deliver 9 (27%) and Iveco Daily (24%). The wooden spoon went to Renault again, as the Master scored 6%.
