Via Chris Williams: Andre Ward says Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis won’t be able to fight Errol Spence Jr or Terence Crawford right now. Ward said Boots Ennis (29-0, 27 KOs) was “too dangerous” for those people.
Once Spence & Crawford “Continue,Ward said. Unless those two are intent on retiring soon, they won’t be able to turn Ennis around without it making it obvious they’re taking him down.
It was a sad future scenario that Ward had in relation to Ennis. The old school fighters from many years ago would not be able to subdue Ennis.
They’ll fight him because that’s what sports are, but will be told if Ward turns out to be right about Boots not being shot until after Spence & Crawford move on.
Boots has said he will move up to junior middleweight after he wins titles at 147, and when he is at 154, there will be no way out for Spence & Crawford.
If Ward turns out to be right about his prediction about 25-year-old Boots being frozen by Spence & Crawford, that’s disappointing because many boxing fans want to see them face him.
At the moment, there isn’t much talent at the age of 154 other than Jermell Charlo and Tim Tszyu. As Crawford and Spence gain weight, they quickly discover there’s no one to fight in that department.
Boots will not be fired
“Spence doesn’t have to fight anyone,” Andre Ward told Fighthype about who Errol Spence Jr will fight next.
“If he’s done boxing, which I don’t think he is, he should be fighting someone like Terence is fighting someone. Stay busy, keep things from happening, and then go back to the negotiation to see if you can make it.
“They won’t give Boots a shot. He’s too dangerous. and this is the thing. You cannot blame them. It is the young crop coming.
“Hey man, let us finish what we’re going on, and this is really a sign of respect for Boots. They are not afraid of Boots. They have been fighting all their lives. It’s a business, and you have to think so.
“He is [Boots] is a young geezer, hungry for anything to achieve, still building his fan base. They know he can fight. He is NOT going to inject right now. He will be shot once Errol and Terence decide to move on.
Ennis has to prove himself
“Boots has to answer all the same tough questions we all have to answer. What happens when you get shot in the mouth for the first time? What if the fight doesn’t go your way? What happens if you are injured or you have tinnitus?
“What happens when competition steps up? That’s a question everyone has to answer. Of course, with the eye test, he passed that. He has a great pedigree with his father and his team. He’s from Philly, they’re real Phillys.
“Of course, you see the pedigree, but you have to see him answer the tough questions we all have to answer to see if he is elite.
“Devin Haney had to give up a lot to make that fight [George Kambosos Jr] twice, and if that happened to him, what would people say? ‘He’s gone mad; he shouldn’t do that. He is not a draw. That’s why he had to go there. ‘
“I know we give our fans a lot of credit, and we should too, true fans, but you have to do what’s best for you and hope the fans understand that. and hope they will accompany you. But you can’t do it just for the fans.
“You have to do it for your family, and you have to make the right business decisions. Haney did what was best for him. He put all that email champion noise to his bed, and he’s in the driver’s seat right now. Ward said.
