Anthony Joshua to Oleksandr Usyk, Frazer Clarke
Via Charles Brun: Frazer Clarke said the plan of action for Anthony Joshua to beat unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is to knock him out on August 20 the same way Derek Chisora and Chazz Witherspoon did.
Clarke said that Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) won’t try to “beat” Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs, but he won’t try and beat him either. Fury if he wants to fight Usyk by grabbing him in regular raccoons and leaning all of his 270+ lbs of weight on him until he gets tired.
At issue is whether Joshua has an incentive to beat Usyk at any point in the fight without letting off steam, as we last saw them fight back in September in London. Joshua is a typical bodybuilder with poor motivation.
Like Joshua, fighters are often overpowered and out of breath for several rounds afterward, and they’re easy choices for fighters with outstanding stamina like Usyk.
Although AJ is capable of receiving his second wind, only if his opponent is stupid enough to slow down to gather information like Wladimir Klitschko did with Joshua in 2017.
Wladimir would have easily won that bout and ruined Joshua’s career in the opening round if he had continued to fight at a fast pace, knocking him out and tire him out in the sixth round.
The truth of the matter is that Joshua was never such a good fighter, not even in his best years. He always had a bad gas tank, and the fighters he beat were a bunch of egg-eaters and old-timers like Alexander Povetkin, Klitschko, Carlos Takam, and Kubrat Pulev.
Frazer Clarke said: “All the focus was on Usyk and made him hustle with educational pressure. walkie talkie about Anthony Joshua’s plan to defeat Oleksandr Usyk.
“Usyk is one of the more skilful heavyweight champions we’ve had in recent years. Just go in there and mauling him as people are suggesting, that’s never going to happen. Also won’t try to mail him.
“We know Usyk can make it through. We saw that in his game against Derek Chisora and his first heavyweight, Chaz Witherspoon,” Clarke said.
If you look at the fight between Chisora and Witherspoon, Usyk focuses on landing accurately rather than just throwing punches like the way those two cruisers did. If Usyk wants to use the volume punch, he can and will likely take them both down soon.
Chisora was injured in that game, and scoring was terrible, like Derek’s recent questionable win over 41-year-old Pulev. Charles Brun let Usyk beat Chisora 11-1.
“This is a street fight with referees and gloves and rules, so you have to anything you can to make this man nervous and use all your attributes,” Clarke said of Joshua needing to remove Usyk from his game.
It sounds like a stupid plan if Joshua tries to “annoy” Usyk by “fighting in the street”. That would be horrible. Hopefully Joshua doesn’t use illegal tactics like rabbit punching and low kicks to try to win at all costs.
