Ben Wheeler was in brilliant form during the Central Stags’ recent win over Wellington in the ongoing Plunket Shield, which entailed an unusual sacking to bring Nick Greenwood back to the stall. Aiming to turn things around after a first-round score of 238 was surpassed by Central Stags’ 358, Wellington got off to a bad start and lost to Jakob Bhula to open the scoring for a golden duck. Meanwhile, his opening partner Luke Georgeson only managed to add 28 runs to the scoreboard. The icing on the cake came in the 23rd minute, when Wheeler made a full serve midway and Greenwood defended it back to him.
It’s the style of the shot where the hitter takes a few seconds to stay in position. But the machine has none of that. Seeing Greenwood come out of the fold, a daring Wheeler aimed at the stump and successfully connected.
The umpire didn’t even have to think twice and the batter was immediately sent back to the locker room.
