Apple has confirmed Aston Matin and Porsche will be the first two carmakers to adopt the next-generation version of its Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, which promises greater immersion.
As reported by various media outlets in the US including Car and Driver, the company has shown off renders of what next-generation Apple CarPlay will look like in cars from each manufacturer.
This new version of Apple CarPlay builds upon the existing form of the smartphone mirroring platform and also integrates into other screens in the vehicle.
It still requires an iPhone to setup and share app-related data, but now has access to a number of vehicle-related features like the radio and climate control, among others.

Aston Martin
Aston Martin has confirmed the latest version of Apple CarPlay will be compatible with its new infotainment system that launches in 2024. This means it will be fitted to the DB12 and DB12 Volante.
Porsche, on the other hand, hasn’t given a specific time of when it will be introducing this new Apple CarPlay functionality into its vehicles.
Depending on the carmaker, the next-gen Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring has a different look.
The Aston Martin render, for example, shows a central information screen that’s flanked by a circular speedometer and tachometer.

Porsche
The latter has “Handbuilt in Great Britain” subtly written around it, too.
The Porsche render on the other hand has a digital instrument cluster layout consisting of a trio of circular gauges with a large speedometer in the middle.
The large passenger screen also has Apple CarPlay functionality built into it.

The wallpaper of all of the three screens in the Porsche render mimics the company’s iconic houndstooth seat pattern.
As previously reported, Apple first revealed the new-generation Apple CarPlay at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in 2022.
Beyond Aston Martin and Porsche, Apple has already confirmed Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ford, Audi, Honda, Volvo, Renault, Infiniti, and Polestar are working to integrate the updated system in their vehicles.
