Australia's uniform wins gold by removing the color green
Appliqued chino shorts with exposed green and yellow details with a casual rolled-up style, worn over the shorts with a green and yellow ruched ombre shirt offer a feminine alternative than. It's one of the few supporting roles gold plays in the uniform color palette.
“The ombre skirt is the most Parisian element of the uniform,” says Hopkinson.
With its classic pleats, the knee-length hem may be too classic for Parisian tastes, and green and yellow are not part of the current ombre trend in French fashion. , but the athletes were happy.
“We were a bit skeptical when it was up on the shelf but now it's up, I love it,” said water polo player Tilly Kearns. “It's quite preparatory. You don't always feel feminine as an athlete.”
Underpinning the look were Dunlop Volley sneakers, a rebranding of Jeff Dunne, making its Olympic debut in Paris in the new sport Breaking, also known as breakdancing.
“We are usually extremely normal in our sport,” said 16-year-old Dunne. “It's baggy pants, fitted shirts and really shiny shoes.
“I would definitely wear a T-shirt and I kind of like the gold around the waist, but this is so smart.”
The number of athletes competing and the significant difference in size continue to challenge the Sportscraft team, which has designed Australia's Olympic opening ceremony uniforms since Atlanta 1996.
“Because of the scale of our production, we produce our uniforms overseas,” Hopkinsons said. The majority of uniform production is in China. “We work with suppliers who are completely transparent about the production process so we can complete orders on time. We are measuring not only the number of athletes participating in the Olympics but also those who are able to attend.”
For Dunne, who made the list, it was a prized possession.
“I have a few blazers for weddings and formal events, but I'm worried I'll ruin them,” says Dunne.
