BBC Star Embroiled in Alleged Sex Pics Scandal Resigns
Huw Edwards, veteran BBC The host suspended over allegations that he paid a teenager to take sexually explicit photos has resigned, the broadcaster said on Monday.
Edwards has been off air since July following bombshell reports that initially did not name him as the host at the center of allegations against a prominent employee of the national broadcaster. After days of frantic speculation in the UK, Edwards' wife revealed that her husband – the man chosen by the BBC to front major national events, including his funeral Queen Elizabeth II—is the person against whom the allegations were made.
“Huw Edwards has today resigned and left the BBC,” a BBC spokesman said on Monday. “After 40 years of service, Huw explained that his decision was made based on medical advice from his doctors.” A spokesman said the BBC had accepted Edwards' resignation “which they believe will allow all parties to move forward”.
