Ben Affleck says negative reaction to Stern interview ‘hurts my feelings’
“That was part of the reason why I started drinking,” Affleck told Stern. “Because I was trapped.”
Affleck joined “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday to clarify his claims.
“I would never want my children to think that I said bad things about their mother,” he told Kimmel.
Affleck had three children with Garner.
Affleck said that after investigating why what he thought was an “honest” interview caused such a stir, he came to the conclusion that his words had been turned into “clickbait.”
“Literally, they listened back to my conversation for two hours and made it look like I was saying the exact opposite of what I was saying,” he said. “I went on and said, how much we respect each other, care about each other and care about our children and put them first and consider everything about us. And they said that I blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism and that I was ‘trapped’ and just made me the worst, most heartless, worst idiot.”
He added: “It’s not true. I don’t believe it. It’s the complete opposite of who I am and what I believe.”
After Kimmel pointed out that Affleck had raged on the subject, Affleck admitted, “It hurt my feelings, man.”
