Best Dual-Purpose Gadgets At IFA 2022: LG, Lenovo And More

Smartphones have been around for a long time offers virtually endless functionality at your fingertips. Now, many product manufacturers have decided that just doing one thing is not enough for them. At Europe’s major tech show in Berlin, IFA 2022, brands big and small showcased a wide range of multi-use products. Tech gimmick, you cry? Some certainly make a lot more sense than others.

LG PuriCare AeroTower

Get used to seeing LG on this list — the Life’s Good team has really embraced the idea that two functions are better than one. You might have seen a built-in fridge on an outdoor table in the past, but AeroTower takes things in a slightly different direction. The company smashed a countertop against the noggin of an air purifier. It’s less refined than Ikea Starkvind ($259). But, we say, why not? It offers 360-degree air filtration and is part of LG’s Puricare Objet Collection Aero Furniture (snappy!) line, which offers bold colors with names like Crème Rose, Crème Yellow and Crème Grey. You can control it all in the LG ThinQ app, and there’s wireless charging as well as some mood lighting. Even so, there is no pricing or release date for this hybrid bit set yet.

Goui Loch

This dual-purpose wonder comes from the lesser known accessory brand, Goui. If you’re someone who always carries around a reusable bottle to stay hydrated, the 420 ml Loch can also help keep your phone (as well as your water intake) full. Yes, that’s right — this bottle is part, well, bottle and part wireless charger. Simply remove the 6,000 mAh battery pack from the bottom and, voila, a clip to wirelessly charge your phone — that is, at 5 watts. The Goui Loch ($35) Available now and in a variety of colors. This seems like a pretty smart and simple idea, making us wonder why people like Chillys and Frank Green didn’t come up with this battery idea. XGIMI Magic Lamp

This isn’t really a new product from XGIMI, having released the previous generation in Japan in 2018, but it made its way to China this year and is expected to launch in the US and Europe soon. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Folded

But in 2020, Lenovo is really coming out with any kind of foldable PC for the first time, and just a day after Asus’ big reveal, it’s back in the game with the 16.3 second-generation model new inches.

What both these devices offer is a smaller laptop experience on the one hand and a larger PC screen experience on the other. Both companies endorse some sort of “regime,” but that’s the gist. I’ve tried both, and the technology is quite enjoyable — especially with Lenovo, offering a stylish and portable experience that I’m looking forward to fully appreciating. What’s not interesting is the price. Asus costs $3,499 for the full package and will launch in Q4. The Lenovo X1 Fold starts at $2,499, with a new keyboard and stylus costing another $250. It is expected to launch in November this year.

Swiss Rig Bresson MK 093

The Bresson MK 093 accessory aims to be “the Swiss Army knife for creators”. Its two main functions are audio capabilities and thumb controls for video recording. The first includes short condenser microphones, premium cables, studio-grade headphone jacks, and more. The latter allows you to use a 5-axis thumbstick to precisely control your zoom inside the dedicated app. The magenta block also offers a built-in battery pack and, importantly, securely attaches to your MagSafe-enabled iPhone. The super cute Enabot Air will monitor your house and play with your pet. As a plus, it wasn’t created by a data-hungry tech giant either. Enabot has a 1080p camera and can be remotely controlled to your home or allowed to roam freely in Auto Cruise mode — or “protected,” as Enabot puts it, but it’s a tall ball. less than 4 inches.
