Big Horse Baffert Yakteen and Sean McCarthy
According to a report in Daily race formtrainers Sean McCarthy and Tim Yakteen will take over Bob Baffert’s stable after his suspension begins Monday.
Baffert has been suspended for 90 days by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission for testing positive for betamethasone from Medina Spirit (Protonico), who crossed the rope first in the GI Kentucky Derby. According to California Horse Racing Commission regulations, any trainer who is suspended for 60 days or more cannot pass on their stables to relatives or staff while they are stable.
According to DRF, McCarthy will take over most of the stables, along with several others joining Yakteen. Earlier in the week it was announced that a handful of the top 3-year-olds, including GI candidate Santa Anita Derby Messier (Empire Maker) and top filly Adare Manor (Uncle Mo), was transferred to the Yakteen barn. Yakteen is Baffert’s former assistant.
McCarthy has been training since 1991 and, according to Equibase, has a career track record of 141-eat-1.431.
