I don’t know when indie comics started telling jokes. I’d say I was a full grown-up before it caught my eye – by those popular comics – that the whole joke was pretty weird. I recall a local shock that devoted considerable attention to the clown’s entire career.
Within the confines of a circus, clowns make sense, if only because the whole atmosphere is surreal. Outside of the circus venue, I found the clown a bit weird, and a lot unnecessary.
I may not be the only one who is a little confused about clowns. It took me a while to find valuable gallery car ads featuring clowns, and some of these were really circus-focused — I’m sorry.
Oh, and for the record, there is a Clown Hall of Fame, although the organization’s website doesn’t actually list those referred on its website. It doesn’t matter much, for Emmet Kelly and the legend of Chicago ordinary person are the only professional clowns I can name. Anyway, enjoy the ads:
