By Dan Ambrose: Dmitry Bivol sees through the excuses Canelo Alvarez is trying to hide after losing to him last May. To cut down on the excuses from Canelo, Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) says he’s still willing to fight him at 168 to help him lose weight.
Canelo won’t have to worry about fighting much larger enemies if Bivol drops to 168.
What surprises Bivol, besides the plethora of excuses, is that Canelo has yet to make a rematch with him. He thought he would, but Canelo chose to face Gennadiy Golovkin last September.
After that match, Canelo decided to have wrist surgery, and the result is now he want to adjust in May. He is talking about taking part in a rematch against Bivol next September, but whether that will happen is unknown.
“I don’t know. I’m resting now,” Dmitry Bivol told fight when asked if Canelo Alvarez is next for him. “We shall see. I do not know.
“First, he says, it’s not his weight class. Then he said, ‘It’s not a good camp.’ Now he says it’s his arm,” Bivol said of Canelo’s defense for his loss last May to him. What can I say?”
“He has his number. I love Canelo, but Bivol already has his number on how he fights,” said Nonito Donaire, warning Canelo.
“The way he fights and the style is quite similar. The way he came in confidently, you can’t deny what he’s done,” Donaire said of Bivol.
“If I train hard and everything in my camp goes well, I believe in my skills that I can beat everyone in the light heavyweight division,” says Bivol.
“I hope. I should,” said Bivol when it was announced that he would beat IBF, WBC & WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev. “I believe in myself.
If things go awry for Canelo in his adjustment battle next May, anything is possible. You have to imagine that the rematch against Bivol will be delayed even further, maybe to 2024.
Of course, it would have been considered a joke at the time since two years had passed since the Canelo-Bivol war.
With that said, Canelo made Golovkin wait four years to fight him after a narrow 12th round win in their rematch in 2018.
Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) was amused by how Canelo kept using one excuse after another to try to explain what happened to him during their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Vegas six months ago.
