Overwatch 2’s Monetization has been a point of contention since the game’s move to free-to-play has made cosmetics that were once free through the original game’s loot boxes quite expensive. It turns out that one of the in-game items is also sold in Blizzard’s online store and costs more in Overwatch 2 than in real life.
Like VG24 / 7 and users on Reddit As pointed out, Overwatch 2 has an aesthetic weapon appeal with Pachimari, a cosmic mascot character, priced at 700 coins in the game’s currency, which equates to $7 USD. Meanwhile, a real keychain with a similar design costs $5 per Blizzard’s Gear Shop.
Notably, the 700 coins you need to buy the Pachimari charm in Overwatch 2 are hard to come by without paying for one of the preset currency packs, and the cheapest one that will get you 700 coins is a $10 trade that gives you you 1000 cents.
Currently Overwatch 2 doesn’t have any option to pay for the specific amount of coins you want, so if you don’t have 700 coins yet through earning them through challenges (you can just earns 60 coins a week through this method, so even if you completed all these challenges since the 4th of October launch you still don’t have that much money) you will have to Pay extra to get the charm.
Overwatch 2’s move to free-to-play removed loot boxes, which are free and unlockable through standard play, and made in-game monetization much easier by converting duplicate cosmetics into coins can be spent on skins, icons, and other unlockable content.
