BMG signed a global publishing agreement with George Harrison Estate to manage the Harrisongs catalog.
The catalog includes more than 200 songs written by George Harrison with The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys and for the artist’s solo career. The directory was previously managed by Concord.
The BMG acquisition expands the company’s relationship with Harrison’s Dark Horse Records music company, serving as a global partner in recorded music, music publishing and merchandise, and developing other business areas.
Harrisongs Limited, the music publishing organization created by Harrison, contains nearly two dozen of his songs written with the Beatles, including the band’s most popular songs on streaming services, Here Comes The Sunas Me, myself and mine, While my guitar gently criesand the US single Something.
The catalog also features 12 studio albums featuring Harrison’s solo works including songs from the popular album trilogy. In 2020, BMG announced they had entered into a multifaceted global partnership with Dark Horse Records, founded by George Harrison in 1974 as a place for his solo work and a home of support. other artists, and is now led by Dhani. Harrison and David Zonshine.
The initial deal brought catalog releases from Harrison’s acclaimed record label and HariSongs India company, as well as Joe Strummer’s solo work, including The Mescaleros.
The recent Dark Horse Records release includes the latest recordings of Billy Idol, The Roadside, and Happy Holidays, with upcoming releases including Idol’s upcoming new EP and much-anticipated new studio album Waiting for Benmont Tench.
More recently, in 2022, Dark Horse Records secured a new global recording agreement for 16 albums from Leon Russell’s record catalog spanning 1984-2013 and a global publishing management contract for the catalog. Joe Strummer’s personal publication includes hundreds of songs including all three Mescaleros albums, his score contributions, as well as Clash Cut’s sixth and final album The Crap.
Furthermore, the partnership with BMG has expanded to include DH Merchandise, a one-stop shop offering creative design to perfection, including the launch of new merchandise stores for George Harrison, Joe Strummer, Johnny Ramone and additional partnerships with Traveling Wilburys and Buddy Holly; as well as introducing the health music series Dark Horse Sounds.
BMG also acts as the music and record publisher of Harrison’s son, Dhani, and releases his most recent and critically acclaimed studio album IN /// PARALLEL. Additionally, BMG’s longstanding relationship with Harrison’s work includes the 2016 release of George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison, a live concert album featuring an all-star lineup performance of Harrison’s musical career.
