BMW begins pilot in-car soccer streaming
Europe BMW Series 7 Owners will now be able to stream soccer matches from inside their cars.
The in-car app will allow customers to stream Bundesliga content, including match highlights and select live content, on the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The pilot program has already begun for German drivers, with other regions in Europe, the Americas and Asia to follow.
At this stage, the in-car app is only available in 7 . series however BMW says it may also be offered on other newly launched models in the range.
The pilot program is currently underway and is expected to run until March 31, 2024.
For safety reasons, the streaming app will only be available when the vehicle is stationary. If the vehicle is in motion, only the program audio can be accessed.
BMW has said that, during testing, updates may be made available over-the-air.
To access the app in the car, drivers in Germany must have a personal eSim activated in their car to be able to stream 5G.
Drivers will then pay for streaming usage through their individual mobile contracts.
Given the high interest in the Premier League and sports streaming services like Kayo, such a feature would be welcomed in Australia. BMW has yet to confirm if or when we will have access to this.
BMW joins brands like Tesla and Polestar in offering in-car streaming apps.
Tesla owners can enjoy streaming apps like YouTube and Netflix in their touchscreen infotainment system.
