Bob Arum Says Eddie Hearn “Delayed” Fury – Joshua Fight
Via Charles Brun: Top Rated promoter Bob Arum said Eddie Hearn is “preventing” the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury so it doesn’t happen.
Arum insisted that Hearn didn’t want the Fury-Joshua fight, and that’s why he suspended it. We don’t know if Hearn is what’s behind the lagging fight.
Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) just signed a lucrative contract with DAZN, and there’s a lot of red tape involved in fighting Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs), who fights on a network other.
As such, trying to combine AJ and Fury teamfights quickly is impossible. It is clearly doable given sufficient time to go over all contract areas, but may not be possible before December 3.
“Eddie Hearn is stalling things because he doesn’t want the fight,“Bob Arum said to talkSPORT. “He is stalling until it dies. I don’t think Joshua is part of that; I think Joshua wants to fight, I know Fury does, but Eddie doesn’t. “
“And why doesn’t he want the fight to happen? Because Joshua has lost three of his last five fights, and he anticipates losing again if he fights Tyson Fury, and so Eddie is, in fact, a setback. “
It’s clearly in Arum’s favor if Joshua fights Fury right now since he’s promoting ‘Gypsy King’.
If you’re Hearn, it makes sense for him to drag his feet. It was not a good match for Joshua after consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Furthermore, Joshua last fought in August, and he didn’t have much time to recover from that fight.
Hearn had to worry about Joshua going into a fight he wasn’t well prepared for. Will Arum give Fury the green light to fight Joshua or Joe Joyce if he loses in a row and has been beaten in three of his last five skirmishes? I don’t think he will.
If Fury’s situation is similar to Joshua’s, I think it’s reasonable to assume that Arum would be against having him fight Joshua or Joyce. There’s a chance that Arum would be dead if Fury were to fight either of them if his career was in the same quagmire as AJ’s is now.
Joshua is a man who makes too much money for him to be in a risky fight against Fury right now. Sure, the fight would make sense if Joshua went into the game with two to three teamfights winning and looking confident.
