Bob Arum Says Rolly Romero With “Not Much Chance” Against Davis Tank
Via Chris Williams: Promoter Bob Arum didn’t give Rolando ‘kt Rolly’ Romero much of a chance to beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on May 28 in their match at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The contest will be shown on Showtime PPV.
Arum says kt Rolly (14-0, 12 Kos) can’t match Tank Davis in terms of athleticism and skill, and that will ultimately be more than enough for him to be the underdog next month.
Arum felt that Rolly’s only hit to win the skirmish was for him to use his punching power, but he still didn’t give him much of a chance.
Rolly, 26, will need to use her strength and size against the smaller 5’5 1/2″ Tank (26-0.24 KOs). Welding Rolly with a featherweight Davis tank.
In terms of stature, kt Rolly has a huge advantage over Gervonta, but that may not be enough for him to win.
“I’m a big fan of Tank. I don’t think Romero is particularly competitive with himI really don’t,” Bob Arum told Against TV Hubwhen asked for his thoughts on the May 28 game between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.
If Tank Davis fights the way he did against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Leo Santa Cruz, you can’t rule out a nasty win for kt Rolly.
Tank looked horrible in those two fights, got hit a lot and showed he’s not the fighter some boxing fans think he is.
Rolly has been looking great lately, beating Anthony Yigit, Avery Sparrow and Jackson Marinez. There’s nothing wrong with Rolly’s punching power, as he punishes his opponents with his kicks.
“We’ll have to see,” Arum continued on whether kt Rolly has a chance to win the Tanks as the ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion next month. “Really. There are not many opportunities.
“I think Tank is the better fighter, the better athleteand have better tools than Romero,” said Arum.
The tank needs to beat kt Rolly to have a big fight with Ryan Garcia later this year. Thanks to Ryan’s massive social media following, it’s a fight that will yield massive PPV purchases.
Arum said: “A lot of boxers, when they feel frustrated with the promoter, they blame the promoter.
“I can’t believe Floyd did anything wrong in promoting Tank Davis, but I don’t know,” Arum said.
