Body of 74-year-old missing boater recovered in Lake Erie: OPP – Hamilton
OPP said the search for a 74-year-old boatman who had been missing for nearly Port Maitland Thursday night ended after his body was found in Lake Erie.
An underwater search and recovery unit said it found the body just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Haldimand County spokeswoman Mary Gagliardi said the search for the man began shortly before 5:30 p.m. on June 16 after he was reported overdue by a family member.
The OPP Maritime Unit, Air Services and Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) from Trenton, Niagara Regional Police and the Canadian Coast Guard joined the search near the Dunnville area on Friday and part of Saturday.
On Monday morning, OPP told Global News that the search had turned into a recovery initiative involving an underwater search and recovery team and a marine unit.
Gagliardi said a victim services team has connected with family members and more information about the deceased will be made available at a later date.
