Boxing Results: Gervonta Davis, Jaron Ennis & Andrade Wins!


Via Ken Hissner: At Capitol One Arena, in Washington, DC, Saturday via PPV Showtime in front of a sold-out crowd of Tom Brown (TGB Promotion), Sampson Lewkowicz (Sampson Boxing) and Top Boxing Champion in the Main Event WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta “Tank ” Davis stopped Hector “El Androide” Luis Garcia after 8 rounds. In the Co-Main Event, Jaron “Boots” Ennis defeated Karen Chukhadzhian for the provisional IBF Welterweight title.

During the Main Event, WBA lightweight champion Southpaw Gervonta “Tank” Davis, 28-0 (26), #134, of Baltimore, MD, stopped Southpaw Hector “El Androide” Luis Garcia, 16-1 ( 10), #134, of San Juan de la Manguana, DR, after 8 rounds of 12 scheduled rounds.

In the first round, it was a thrilling match with Davis having the upper hand. In the second round, Garcia used his reach to his advantage until Davis’ final punch hit Garcia in the chin. In the third round, Garcia took a number of leads to Davis’ chin in the round.

In the fourth round, it was a right hook from Davis’ chin in the middle of the round that sent Garcia shaking. Garcia went around. In the fifth round, Garcia had a direct hit to the chin, knocking Davis’ head off in the first minute. Both had their moments.

In the sixth round, Garcia had the better action as both fighters fired punches with little combination. In the seventh round, champion Davis began to land the lead to the delight of the fans. In the eighth round, Davis hurt Garcia when a small riot started outside the ring causing the match to be halted. At the end of the half, Davis left Garcia injured and was unable to play in the ninth round due to an eye injury. The match even took place on this writer’s card after 8 innings.

During the Co-Main Event, 1st place runner Jaron “Boots” Ennis, 30-0-1 (27), #145 ½, of Philadelphia, PA, had an impressive loss to 4th placer Karen Chukhadzhian , 21-2 ( 11), #146 ¼, of Kiev, UKR, through 12 rounds to win the title of Provisional Welder.

In the first rounds, with the first minute coming to an end, Ennis turned to attack south for the rest of the round, chasing Chukhadzhian across the ring. In the second inning, Ennis returned to the orthodox continuing to land Chukhadzhian, who was occasionally stabbed. In the third round, the first minute ended once again Ennis turned to attack south. Midway through, Ennis injured Chukhadzhian with a shot to the body. In the last fifteen seconds Ennis once again wounded Chukhadzhian with a punch to the chin.

In the first minute of the fourth inning, a jolt to the left chin from the south side of Ennis rocked Chukhadzhian. Ennis is back to the orthodox in a minute. In the fifth round, at the last minute, Chukhadzhian delivered his best punch to Ennis’ chin. In the final seconds, Ennis landed with a punch to the chin that caught Chukhadzhian’s attention.

In the final seconds of the seventh inning, Ennis let Chukhadzhian look like a beater as the bell rang, walking slowly toward his corner. In the eighth round, Ennis won a forehand to head the first minute. In the final seconds there was an exchange, a rarity in this exchange.

In the ninth inning, Chukhadzhian made his first combination near the end of the first minute against Ennis. Ennis continued to pressurize as Chukhadzhian ran for the remainder of the round. In the eleventh inning at the last minute, Ennis landed three punches from the south to the chin that injured Chukhadzhian. Ennis was frustrated trying to end this.

In the twelfth and final round after twenty seconds, Chukhadzhian had his best combination against Ennis. Ennis again took over after that. In the final minutes, Chukhadzhian held his ground and paid the price before moving back as Ennis ended the fight with a finishing blow!

WBC Welter Champion Int’l Rashidi “Speedy” Ellis, 24-1 (15), #146 ¼, by Lynn, MASS, was disappointed by the majority decision for Roiman “Flaco de Oro” Villa, 26- 1 (24), #145, by Rosario, VZ, with Ellis being eliminated twice in 12order and finalists, in the IBF Welter qualifiers.

In the first two innings, Villa followed Ellis barely delivering many punches while Ellis countered with thrusts and some much quicker arm and leg body movements. In the middle of the round, the boxers had their first exchange. Ellis continued to control the fight.

In the fourth inning, an Ellis right-kick to Villa’s chin sent him shaking mid-half. Villa at the last minute had a left headbutt into Ellis’ body. Ellis took another round. In the seventh inning, Villa made a double left hook to his body with a slightly low second that injured Ellis.

In the final half minute of the ninth inning, Villa made a left landing in Ellis’ ear that sent him shaking. In the tenth inning, the twenty-second final, a right from Villa on the side of Ellis’s head knocked Ellis’ knee. In the eleventh game, Villa bled from his lower lip at the end of the round after one of his best innings. In the twelfth and final round, a left hook at half-time from Villa to the chin and knocking out Ellis made Referee Brent Bovell count eight points. In the final seconds of Ellis’ numerous tackles, a combination of three punches to the head from Villa knocked Ellis down with another Villa punch while Ellis was scored 8 by Referee Bovell as the bell rang. Go save Ellis from overtime .

The score is 113-113, 114-112 for Villa, respectively. This writer had it 115-111 for Ellis.

Former WBO south middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, 32-0 (19), #167 ¼, of Providence, RI, beat Demond “D’Bestatit” Nicholson, 26-5-1 (22), #167 ¼, by Laurel, MD, over 10 rounds, with a knockdown on the final round.

In the second inning, a jab from south of Andrade followed by a stab to the neck sent Nicholson being counted eight by Referee Malik Waleed with just over a minute left. In the third round, Andrade scratched his left eyebrow. Andrade will return to the ring 14 months after shoulder surgery.

In the fifth round, Nicholson was left attacked by Nicholson and a push and knock down Andrade decided referee Waleed missed a minute into the round. Andrade had a combination of 5 punches to the head and body at the last minute. In the last minute of the sixth round, a sure left stab from Nicholson into the right eye brought Andrade to a halt.

In the seventh inning, Andrade landed a right to the chin and then grabbed Nicholson in the back pulling him onto the canvas. In the eighth round, Andrade let Nicholson pin in a neutral corner for the first two minutes to dominate the round.

In the tenth and final round, Andrade’s left kick to Nicholson’s chin earned him a score of 8 by Referee Waleed.

Super Welter Vito “White Majic” Mielnicki, Jr., 14-1 (9), #153 ¼, of Roseland, NJ, intercepted Omar Rosales, 9-2-1 (5), #152 ¾, of MEX and Houston, TX, in 4 scheduled 10 innings. Mielnicki scored the knock in the 3rd halfrank.
