Via Ken Hisner: At Dignity Sports Wellness Park, Carson, California, Saturday across the US Fit promoter Marvin Rodriguez (MaryNation Promotions) was in the Main Event, 1st placer Jose “Chon” Zepeda was stopped by 2nd placer, former WBA lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis in round 2 eleven for the vacant WBC Ultralight title.
In the co-feature, Argentina’s IBF and WBO World Flyweight Champion Evelin “La Princecita” Bermudez defended their title, losing by majority decision to IBF and WBO World Mini champion Yokasta Valle of Costa Rica.
During the Main Event, Southpaw Jose “Chon” Zepeda, 36-3 (28), #139 ½, of Lu Puente, CA, was stopped by former WBA lightweight champion, Southpaw Regis “Rougarou” Prograis, 28- 1 (24), #139, of Houston, TX, at 0:59 of round 11 of 12 for the vacant WBC Ultralight belt.
In the first round, Prograis feigned a lot but landed few punches.
Zepeda scored his first solid punch in over a minute leaving a solid punch to the chin.
Again in the final seconds, Zepeda landed left on Prograis’ chin. In the second round, Prograis used an effective jab to win the round. In the final 20 seconds of the third round, Prograis landed firmly left on the chin of Zepeda, who made very little head movement.
In the fourth round, Prograis made a straight line on Zepeda’s right eyebrow. Late in the half, Zepeda missed a corner before his own corner was awarded.
In the fifth and sixth innings, Prograis continued to use his hand speed with his jab leaving Zepeda without any offense.
In the seventh round, Zepeda finally began to let go. In the final 20 seconds, Prograis performs a left hook over the top of Zepeda’s head.
In the ninth round, Prograis continued to win round after round, mostly with his stab, as Zepeda couldn’t seem to pull the trigger. In the tenth inning, Zepeda held the ball a lot but was able to land a snake that caused Prograis to bleed.
In the eleventh round, Prograis unleashed more than a dozen unanswered punches that sent Zepeda into the rope and fell when Referee Ray Corona waved his hand.
In the co-feature, IBF and WBO world light flyweight champion Evelin “La Princecita” Nazarena Bermudez, 17-1-1 (6), #106, of Rosario, Sante Fe, ARG, lost to IBF and WBO World by majority decision Mini Champion Yokasta Valle, 27-2 (9), #107 ½, of San Jose, CR, over 10×2 innings.
In the first three innings, Valle had the advantage. Over the next three innings, Bermundez came back well to take them down.
In the final round, Valle defeated Bermundez. The referee is Jack Reiss. Score 95-95, 99-91 and 97-93, same as this writer.
Lightweight Ruben “Ace” Torres, 19-1 (16), #136, of South Central Los Angeles, CA, lost to Eduardo “La Pesadia” Estela, 14-1 (9), #136, of Montevideo , URG , 10 rounds.
In the first round, Estela’s mid-right right punch injured Torres, who then had three more punches to the chin, and Torres was scored eight by Referee Thomas Taylor. He managed to get the bell. At the last minute of the second half, Torres made Estela face a blow to the right chin.
Heavyweight runner Bakhodir Jalolov, 12-0 (12), #247 ½, of Sarioslyo, UZB, and Brooklyn, NY, knocks out Curtis “The Hurt” Harper, 14-9 (9), #260, of Jacksonville, FL, at 1:53 minutes Wednesday out of 10.
In the third round, Jalolov left Harper on the chin near the end of the round, causing him to be counted eight by referee Thomas Taylor and managed to ring the bell.
In the fourth round, Jalolov delivered a series of punches to the chin that knocked Harper out with an eight from Referee Thomas Taylor. When Harper got up, referee Taylor waved his hand.
Super Welter Charles Conwell, 18-0 (13), #153 ¾, of Cleveland, OH, won by majority decision over Juan “Merengue” Carlos Abreu, 25-7-1 (23), #154, in La Romana, DR, ten rounds.
In the second round, Conwell suffered a nasty cut on his left eyelid. In the fifth round, Conwell, although bleeding from the cut, had a good round. In the sixth inning, Conwell made a strong right hit to stop Abreu in his path.
In the seventh round, Conwell threw a powerful punch to the body, injuring Abreu. By the end of the ninth day, Abreu looked tired as Conwell took over. In the tenth and final round, Abreu pressed in while Conwell counterattacked well. The referee is Jerry Cantu.
