The winner took the title though coming last in the series’ final technical challenge and showing oven problems.
But Giuseppe Dell’Anno, 45, an engineer living in Bristol, was crowned champion.
He wowed the judges throughout the competition with his elegant baking and precisely designed cakes, with a dash of Italian flair.
Dell’Anno said: “There are no words, I’m speechless. All I can think is my mom and dad’s reaction.”
“The fact that everything I’ve done to deserve this comes from (dad’s) legacy, that’s the best thank you I can give him.”
Dell’Anno defeated finalists Crystelle Pereira and Chigs Parmar in the much-anticipated final for an amateur baking show.
“He’s a beautiful, classic baker and he represents Italy’s long tradition of classic baking. He did it brilliantly all the way,” judge Dame Prue said. Leith said
“I will go home to make more Italian cakes because they are really delicious.”
