Bronny James named to Team USA for Nike Hoop Summit
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Mr. JamesSon of the leader who scored in his NBA career LeBron Jamesis one of 26 players announced Tuesday as a member of the USA Basketball team for this year’s Nike Hoop Summit.
Teams USA will play on April 8 against international players at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. International teams will be selected over the next few weeks, from player pools representing FIBA Africa, FIBA Americas, FIBA Asia, FIBA Europe and FIBA Oceania .
This will be the first USA Basketball experience for Bronny James, a senior at California’s Sierra Canyon High School ranked as 28th best rookie in the class of 2023 of the GAME. He has yet to announce his post-secondary plans but is being employed by Oregon, Ohio State, USC and elsewhere.
All 12 other players on the U.S. men’s team have committed to school, with Justin Edwards (Philadelphia) and DJ Wagner (Camden, New Jersey) chose Kentucky and Jared McCain (Corona, California) and Sean Stewart (Windermere, Florida) to Duke.
Eight other schools have a spot on the U.S. men’s team: Biliew Omaha (Omaha, Nebraska) will go to Iowa; Blake Buchanan (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) will go to Virginia; Isaiah Collier (Marietta, Georgia) will go to Southern California; Eric Dailey Jr.. (Tampa, Florida) will go to the State of Oklahoma; Dutch Ron (Duncanville, Texas) will go to Texas; Jackson Shelstad (West Linn, Oregon) will go to Oregon; Ja’Kobe Walter (McKinney, Texas) will go to Baylor; And Cody Williams (Gilbert, Arizona) is going to Colorado.
WOMEN’S TEAM
Three schools each with two pledges were selected for the U.S. women’s team, which will participate in the Hoop Summit for the first time.
Arizona has Breya Cunningham (Chula Vista, California) and Jada Williams (Kansas City, Missouri). Connecticut has Kamorea “KK” Arnold (Germantown, Wisconsin) and Ashlynn shade (Nobilityville, Indiana). LSU has Aalyah Del Rosario (Danbury, Connecticut) and Mikaylah Williams (Bossier City, Louisiana).
Also selected as the committed Duke Jadyn Donovan (Upper Marlboro, Maryland); The State of North Carolina is committed Zoe Brooks (Plain, New Jersey); The Notre Dame Pledge Hannah Hidalgo (Merchantville, New Jersey); Oklahoma is committed Sarah Williams (Waterloo, Iowa); USC commits Judea “Juju” Watkins (Sylmar, California); Stanford commits Sunaja “Nunu” Agara (Minneapolis); and Texas is committed Madison Booker (Ridgeland, Mississippi).
HISTORY
The summit dates back to 1995 and has seen 253 participants previously selected to the NBA, with 90 top 10 picks and 14 #1 picks – including Cade Cunningham (2021), Zion Williamson (2019), Deandre Ayton (2018), Markelle Fultz (2017), Ben Simmons (2016), Karl-Anthony Towns (2015), Andrew Wiggins (2014), Anthony Bennett (2013), Anthony Davis (2012), Kyrie Irving (2011), John Wall (2010), Derrick Rose (2008), Andrea Bargnani (2006) and Elton Brand (1999).
Other alumni of the conference include Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Shane Battier, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Bradley Beal and Tyler Herro.
