Canada’s McIntosh finished fourth in the 400m freestyle final at the watersports world
Summer McIntosh of Canada finished fourth in the women’s 400-meter freestyle final on Sunday at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Ariarne Titmus of Australia won the gold medal and regained the world record from McIntosh with a time of 3 minutes 55.38 seconds.
US swimming legend Katie Ledecky (3:58.73) overcame a slow start to take the silver medal. Ledecky is looking to match compatriot Michael Phelps’ record of 15 gold medals in the underwater world and is also competing in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters freestyle.
New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather (3:59.59) went ahead in the final 50 meters to overtake McIntosh (3:59.94) to take the final spot on the podium.
McIntosh, 16, previously broke the world record at a swimming competition in Canada in March with a time of 3:56.08.
