Canadian Ethan Katzberg achieved the longest hammer throw since 2008
One of Canada's top Olympic medalists appears to be in top form ahead of the Paris Games.
Ethan Katzberg won gold in the men's hammer throw at the Kip Keino Continental Tour in Kenya with a throw of 84.38 meters on Saturday, the best distance covered by anyone in the event since last year. 2008.
Katzberg's previous personal best was 81.25 meters to win gold at last year's world athletics championships.
The world record is 86.74 meters by Yuriy Sedykh of Russia in 1986.
Katzberg, 22, from Nanaimo, BC, also won a gold medal at last year's Pan American Games and a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Canadian Olympic Track and Field Trials take place June 27-30 in Montreal.
The Olympic hammer throwing competition takes place on August 2 and 4.
