Via Dan Ambrose: Canelo Alvarez is in an absolute position to face Dmitry Bivol in a rematch next year after his injured hand healed. If Canelo changes up his rematch with Bivol, fans will pour for him royally as they will know that he was chosen to beat the undefeated Russian.
Canelo may not want a rematch with Bivol after his bad experience last May when he was sent to school, but it’s a fight fans want to see and DAZN wants it. If Canelo chooses to avoid Bivol and go back to fighting the squishy hordes of warriors he defeated between 2018 and 2021.
It is clear that Canelo has changed Bivol by choosing to play 40-year-old Gennadiy Golovkin 40-year-old player who played last month on September 17. Moreover, Canelo made things worse by placing conditions on him. rematch with Bivol by saying that he must defeat Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez on November 5.
Also, Canelo is openly backing Ramirez to beat Bivol. The interesting part is that if Ramirez wins, he doesn’t get a chance to fight Canelo because he said he won’t fight the Mexican boxer.
So if Ramirez wins, Canelo will be open to a rematch with Bivol, and he could be back fighting the guys he wants to fight, which means we could see him trying to make a comeback with European boxers with serious flaws like John Ryder.
The boxing public wants to see Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) fight WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) again, and it was one of the few fights where the winner Mexican stars available to him will bring in lots of pay-per-view purchases and new DAZN subscribers.
Canelo won’t be able to match John Ryder on PPV, and it’s highly likely that DAZN will pay him large sums to put that mismatch on their network.
DAZN has to know that fans won’t want to see Canelo take on an over-qualified boxer from Europe in another cherry bout like all the fights he’s amassed from 2018 to 2021. .

- Dmitry Bivol
- David Benavidez
- Jermall Charlo
Caleb Plant could slip into that group if he beats Anthony Dirrell, Benavidez and Charlo like he is saying he will. But we do know that Plant is likely to beat Benevidez & Charlo and only start calling Canelo non-stop if he wins the showdown against Dirrell this Saturday night.
Plants are not stupid. The old ‘Sweethands’ knew Charlo & Benevidez would take him down and destroy his career worse than Canelo did.
