Canelo Alvarez “NOT impressed with Gennadiy Golovkin’s win over Ryota Murata
Via Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez said he was unimpressed with Gennadiy Golovkin’s ninth knockout win over Ryota Murata earlier this month on April 9 during their 160 lb unification in Saitama, Japan.
Canelo could face Golovkin in a three-part bout in September if the Mexican star wins next month’s bout against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) on Jan. May 7.
The fight with Bivol is far from a definite win for 31-year-old Canelo, so there’s a high chance we’ll NOT see the trio between the Mexico star and Golovkin on September 17.
If Canelo loses to Bivol, September will certainly be a rematch with the undefeated Russian. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn hasn’t talked about how the scenario will play out when Canelo loses to Bivol once or twice in a row.
Sean Jones predicts Canelo will lose to Bivol in round 12 unanimous decision with a score of 116-112 [8 rounds to 4] on May 7 and will have a hard time deciding whether to push a rematch.
One can speculate that if Canelo loses to Bivol in consecutive fights in 2022, the trio fight with Golovkin will be moved to 2023. Canelo will likely have a confidence boost in December to turn around. return to his winning streak instead of risking a third with Bivol.
“He did what he had to do, won by knockout. i’m not impressed, but he looks fine; he looks strong. But I have never been impressed, even before. I have never been impressed with him“Canelo Alvarez said to ESPN reaction to Gennady Golovkin’s victory over Ryota Murata on 9 April.
It is difficult to understand Canelo’s negative comments about Golovkin as a sign of bitterness during two controversial fights with him, both of which were seen by fans as victories for the Kazakh boxer.
Golovkin must have been the most bitter, as he would have made a lot of money if he won both matches. You have to imagine that Golovkin will make millions and millions.
40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) is about to be fired for 16 months to face WBA middleweight champion Murata (16-3, 13 KOs), and it’s not surprising he doesn’t look too sharp .
Golovkin’s strength is still top-notch, but his fitness looks less than desirable, and he seems to have lost a small amount of speed. Golovkin’s inactivity over the past four years has affected his game, as he’s only fought four times since 2018 with these boxers:
- Steve Rolls
- Sergiy Derevyanchenko
- Kamil Szeremeta
- Ryota Murata
If Golovkin made more formidable protests more often, his popularity would still be sky-high. Instead, he fights four adjusted level boxers, presumably thinking Canelo will fight him again.
For whatever reason, Canelo has other ideas, picking a bunch of champions on paper, raising his record and telling fans he’s building on his legacy.
If you look at the people Canelo has faced, it’s clear that he hasn’t built his legacy.
He fought for easy money with paper champs while directing around the likes of Golovkin, David Benavidez, David Morrell Jr, Artur Beterbiev, Joe Smith Jr and Demetrius Andrade.
“That fight will be for everyone who wants to see it again,” said Alvarez. “[It’s] especially because people want to see that fight. ”
“We are talking about the Bivol war. I need to win this war, and then we’ll see. ”
“Perhaps he wanted people to forget about the first two fights because they were too painful for him?” Golovkin talks about Canelo.
Canelo’s objections as of 2018:
- Rocky Fielding
- Billy Joe Saunders
- Callum Smith
- Avni Yildirim
- Sergey Kovalev
- Caleb . Factory
Bivol will be the world better than those guys which is why it is likely that Canelo will lose to him next month.
