Via Dan Ambrose: Canelo Alvarez’s coach Eddy Reynoso said that they want a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, but because of the company they work with, they are now joining the trio with Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.
Interestingly, Reynoso calls the Golovkin trio “personal” but doesn’t say so about the Bivol fight as personal. Why is it not personal with Bivol? He’s the one who beat Canelo like a drum and made him look like a top amateur last May.
Reynoso did not say which company told them that Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) next has to face 40-year-old Golovkin, but he may be talking about Matchroom Boxing.
So good for Reynoso & Canelo that they have someone to blame for not rematching Bivol as it will cool down.
Whoever told Canelo he needed to face Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) instead of WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs), they claim helped him. me a great favor.
The way Bivol dominated a tired-looking Canelo, beating him with ease last May, it is predictable that the same will happen in a rematch.
Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn is talking about Canelo facing Bivol next May if the two boxers win the interim bout this year.
Canelo will need to beat Golovkin in September and possibly a defense against WBA mandatory John Ryder in December in the UK.
Unless Canelo’s confidence has increased after the loss to Bivol, he should have beaten Golovkin and Ryder without too much difficulty.
This is not Golovkin from 2017 & 2018 that Canelo was fighting on September 17th. Golovkin aged and aged little by little in his last match against Ryota Murata last April in Tokyo, Japan.
