Canelo Vs. Munguia: The $90 “Meh” Festival That No One Wants
With eight days left until the May 4 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia on May 4, there have been no rumors about this fight from fans on social media.
It's too late to hand the shoe back to Munguia and find a replacement that fans want to see Canelo fight, but the organizers should come up with something to attract fans to buy into this event.
PPV Price That's the real joke
Canelo should have fought Crawford and had Munguia fight David Morrell or Benavidez on the undercard. That would make more sense, especially with the extra-galactic PPV prices they are charging for the May 4 event. They are charging a cool $89.99 for fans to watch Canelo takes on Munguia in a cherry-picked fight above Amazon Prime Videos and DAZN PPV.
This isn't the Super Bowl and normal people don't know who Munguia is because he's spent his entire career fighting creampies. Combined with a terrible undercard and an outrageous PPV price, it spells disaster.
Canelo should have listened to fans' advice that they did not want to see him fight Munguia (43-0, 34 KO), whose resume is 100% inflated. They want Canelo to fight David Benavidez or Terence Crawford next. Munguia is still largely considered a prospect at this point because he has yet to fight any credible opponents despite being a pro for 11 years.
first. Expensive: Expect fans to pay $89.99 to watch the above Canelo-Munguia event Amazon Prime Videos and DAZN PPV is a mistake. That's way too high and the liner card that comes with it is terrible, one of the worst I think I've seen for a high-priced event in a long time.
2. Munguia's weak information: Mexican fighter Munguia hasn't beaten anyone good enough to get fans excited when he fights Canelo in a $90 PPV event. The best wins of Munguia's career came against Sergiy Derevyanchenko and John Ryder. Those guys were old and had just been beaten. Munguia, 27, has fake manufactured fighters written all over him and fans aren't loving it like they did in the past with similar fighters with inflated resumes with wins before taxi drivers.
The results are predictable and boring
Promoter Leonard Ellerbe will pick Canelo by knockout against Munguia in their fight on May 4 in Las Vegas. Ellerbe sees the “forward” fighting style of the easy-hitting Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) as “tailor-made” for Canelo to take down, and so do the fans.
Leonard Ellerbe told “Munguia's style is progressive and the way I see it it only goes one way, Canelo will light his a**.” Fight Hub TV regarding Canelo Alvarez's fight with Jaime Munguia on May 4.
“I hope this fight will end in a knockout. [Munguia’s] designed specifically for him. This will be one of Canelo's better performances.”
