Cape Canaveral Passing at 26
GSW Cape Canaveral (Mr. Pros Inspector – Seaside Attraction, of Seattle Slew) died aged 26 at Highfield Stock Farm in Canada, where he stood for 14 years. He battled severe cellulitis and was euthanized. He was written to last fall.
Cape Canaveral has been one of the top studs in Canada since 2008 with 20 race age plants, 541 ponies, 429 starters, 21 black type winners, 315 winners in 1,080 race and earnings of more than $17.8 million.
In addition to GI Kentucky Oaks winning Seaside Attraction, Cape Canaveral raced for Overbrook Farm owner/raider D. Wayne Lukas, winning three of four races, including GIII San Miguel S. He earned 128,640 dollars.
“Cape has left an impression on all those fortunate enough to be tasked with looking after him,” said Highfield President Adrian Munro. “His longevity in the barn is testament to Cal Britton, Amber Jacobson, Jennifer Buck and Kelly Robinson, who took care of him flawlessly during his tenure at Highfield. He is the foundation male for our breeding program and he will be missed a lot.”
