Castlevania: Legacy of Darnkess players discover new Konami code after 25 years
The Nintendo 64 game Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness was released 25 years ago, but a new Konami Code, essentially a cheat code, has just been discovered for it.
YouTuber JupiterClimb uploaded a video revealing the code that he says makes Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness “the definitive way to play Castlevania on the N64”. Although the game appears as the definitive version of the regular Castlevania 64, some have criticized it for only having the werewolf character Cornell playable from the start. However, thanks to this code, that is no longer a problem.
By entering C-Up x4, C-Down x4, C-Left x2, C-Right x2, C-Left x2, C-Right x2, L, R and Z twice in the main menu, the player can create a brand new saves and sees all four characters unlocked, meaning Reinhardt Schneider, Carrie Fernandez and Henry Oldrey are all available from the start.
Otherwise, players will have to play through significant sections of the game to unlock each character even though some characters were available from the start in the original version. In addition to the basic version, alternate skins of each character are also available immediately.
The Konami code also grants access to hard mode when the player initiates a new save and reaches the save point after entering. By exiting the game and returning to select a new save, the hard difficulty will be unlocked.
Oddly, JupiterClimb also introduces other newly discovered codes, which essentially fill up a character's inventory, granting them maximum powers and secondary weapons, and giving them 99 gems.
These codes will likely breathe new life into Legacy of Darkness, which has been part of a long-dormant series. In spite of a well-received Netflix animated series As of 2017, Castlevania is yet to be seen a new video game released since 2014.
However, the discovery of the new codes and the reception to the Netflix show perhaps indicate that fans are eager for more Castlevania games, with Konami themselves admitting “excitement and enthusiasm ” of fans and told IGN this was “really motivating”.
