Via Sam Volz: Jack Catterall is still out of form after losing to undisputed lightweight champion Josh Taylor last February in Glasgow, Scotland.
Naturally, Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs) felt down about his questionable 12-round decisive defeat to then-140-lb four-belt champion Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs). .
A win over Taylor would lead to some huge salaries for Catterall, 29, who will likely never get such an opportunity again.
The loss to Taylor sent Catterall down to 140th. He is currently ranked 3rd in IBF, 4th in WBC and 4th in WBO, and has some solid contenders ahead of him.
At issue is whether Catterall can earn another must-have slot if he is forced to tagline his way through these killers at 140:

- Regis Prograis
- Jose Ramirez
- Sub Mattias
- Jeremias Ponce
- Arnold Barboza
- Liam Paro
Ideally, Catterall would like to rematch 31-year-old Taylor, but the fight would make less sense as Josh has vacated the 140-lb WBA & WBC belts.
Assuming Taylor doesn’t skip one of his remaining two belts in the lightweight division, Catterall will fight him for the IBF & WBO belts.
“Definitive [want a second fight against Josh Taylor]. We’ve all seen the final fight controversy, and there’s definitely something to bed with Josh,” Jack Catterall told Sky Sports News.
“Hopefully that fight can be fought in the future, and I’ll find a way to do the job properly this time and put it to bed,” continued Catterall.
Catterall could still show up for the rematch as Taylor likely won’t lose the weight they did last time they fought, and he’ll have extra motivation.
When Taylor shoots at all eight turrets, he’s hard to beat, especially by someone who doesn’t have as much power as Catterall.
“After that last match, I proved that I belong on the world level. I’ve had a lot of domestic games over the years, and I want to carry on now and win those world titles,” Catterall said.
In the end, I’d love to get that fight back and go and settle it,” Cattall said of the rematch with Josh Taylor.
