CBI overcomes death by suicide of Tamil Nadu teenager, seen in video
New Delhi:
The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the death of a Tamil Nadu teenager, who was accused by hostel guards of abusing and attempting to convert her to Christianity. In an unverified video that appeared after her death, the girl said she may have been harassed and abused because her family refused to convert to Christianity.
Another video has surfaced, in which a 17-year-old female student is heard saying she had “taken poison” for fear her grades would drop. She drank poison at her home in Thanjavur on January 9.
The inn manager was arrested.
The video was taken on a mobile phone and has now been sent for forensic examination.
The videos were handed over to Madras High Court, which ordered police not to harass the person who filmed her on a mobile phone and instead focus on the investigation.
Police said neither the girl nor her parents had been previously accused of converting, to the police or the judge or in any dying declarations.
The BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit has taken this case as an example of a forced conversion and has demanded action.
