Chanel shows off the casual side of high fashion on the Paris runway
Chanel’s creative director, Virginie Viard, selected an exacting rendition of high fashion for the French fashion house’s fall-winter runway show on Tuesday, showcasing a mix of gowns, jumpsuits and tweed ensembles with slightly laid-back outfits.
The studio went to a horse arena on the outskirts of Paris, building a playset with optical effects, with geometric motifs running sideways while large silver spheres hung from the ceiling.

The performance opened with Pharrell Williams playing the drums, with a low-pitched electronic music background.
When the background music suddenly changed to soft vocals, appeared a wavy-haired model in a lime green dress and jacket, starting the fashion lineup. Others followed, zigzagging across the floor, dressed in beige and pale pink and looking all black.
The jacket is paired with trousers or an ankle-length skirt, with pockets and buttonholes in the house’s signature tweed, in a variety of textures, including stripes.
Low heels and soft hats add to the casual taste of the line, glittering embellishments are kept to a minimum.
Closing the show, even the traditional bride in an all-white wedding dress looked very comfortable, her hands in her front pockets. A simple white bow is placed on her head, the tail of the ribbon flowing down the back.
The haute couture shows run until July 7 in Paris.
