Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday kept the likes of Ravindra Jadeja (16 INR crore), MS captain Dhoni (12 INR crore), Moeen Ali (8 INR crore) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 INR crore) before Indian Premier League (IPL) Big 2022 Auction in January. There are many notable players absent from CSK’s retention list, including South African player Faf du Plessis. He was CSK’s second-highest scorer (449 runs in 13 games) in IPL 2021 and played a key role in their title win last season.
Many have suggested that du Plessis was retained by CSK, but England’s Moeen Ali’s dazzling form was the deciding factor in his retention ahead of the big auction.
However, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan did not rule out the possibility of bringing in the South African tennis player.
“We look forward to them coming back. For example, Faf is the one who got us to the finals of two important seasons. We will give our best and try for him. But that’s not part of it. our hands. We wish them all the best wherever they are. We look forward to a great 2022” he said in a video uploaded by CSK.
With CSK boasting a high win rate at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Viswanathan also hinted at the possibility of a Chepauk Stadium operating at full capacity in the upcoming season.
“Chennai is a very lucky field for us; we have a good home advantage. It is thanks to the support of the CSK fans who are present at the stadium. I hope that this year we will get the entire MA Chidambaram Stadium to use,” he added.
Jadeja is the first name on the retention list given by CSK, followed by captain Dhoni. However, Vishwanathan says the veteran hitter “drives the team,” and remains a mainstay for CSK.

“Thala (Dhoni) has been a mainstay of CSK. He is a captain assigned to us. He brings out the best in the team every time he plays. As far as we know, Thala plays a role. important role because he controls the team and the team benefits from his experience. No one can doubt his skill as a captain,” he said.
CSK will aim to defend their title in the upcoming season, which will feature two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – for the existing pool of eight teams.
