Cheslie Kryst of Miss America shares her struggles in her memoir
And while trying to “focus my thoughts on positive statements of power,” Cheslie explains that positivity “only lasts so long.”
By the time you read this Due out on April 23, proceeds from the book will go to the Cheslie C. Kryst Foundation, which provides mental health supports for teens and young adults. The book is a collaboration between Cheslie and her mother April Simpkinswho, before Cheslie's death, received a letter from her daughter asking her to ensure the memoir would be published.
April opened up about Cheslie's mental health struggles and raised awareness since the beauty queen died by suicide in January 2022 in New York.
“Cheslie has both a public and private life,” she told E! News a year later. “In her private life, she faced high-functioning depression that she kept hidden from everyone—including me, her closest confidant—for so long before she passed away.”
She added: “I have never known such profound pain.” “I have changed forever.”
