We recommend buying the LT version, as it comes with more standard features than the low-end LS. The LT comes standard with 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote engine start, heated front seats and a power driver’s seat. Each LT version also features automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, but blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert can be added with the $545 Driver Confidence package. Engine, transmission and performance

Unlike many other family sedans, the 2023 Malibu is only available with a single powertrain. There are also no hybrid or all-wheel drive options. Chevy is equipped with a 163-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, which drives the front wheels through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The version we tested record a complete average time of 7.8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. This combination was slower than similar competitors in our acceleration tests, but it delivered a smooth, even traction. Real-world fuel economy and MPG

In terms of EPA fuel economy estimates, the Malibu’s single engine underperforms comparable base powertrains in the Accord and Toyota Camry. The Chevy is rated at 30 mpg combined, 2 mpg lower than last year. However, its 1.5-liter turbocharged engine managed to get a respectable 34 mpg in the process our 75 mph highway fuel economy route. Furniture, Amenities and Merchandise

While the Malibu’s interior isn’t the prettiest or the quietest, it’s comfortable and ergonomically friendly. The cabin has competitive passenger space and options, but most alternatives offer better exterior views. Malibu’s symmetrical dashboard and large opening below the center stack give the cabin a spacious feel. The front seats have wide bases and supportive side cushions, but their back cushions are too narrow for some occupants. The rear seat has less legroom than the Accord’s rear seat, but it still fits into our adult frame. Malibu boasts a large trunk with ample carrying capacity; it also has plenty of interior storage space although it’s not class-leading.

Infotainment and connectivity

The Chevy fits every Malibu with a touchscreen infotainment system that includes many desirable options — Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. While the touchscreen interface is easy to understand, this system is losing ground against the competition and it lacks a convenient rotary control knob as a second way to interact with the interface.

Safety and driver assistance features

Although the Chevy sedan may have all the tech support help protect modern families, none of which is the norm.
