Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’ director boasts the most in a very small cameo
In Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, cartoon characters that live with people in real people – and not just Disney characters. The film follows two animated chipmunks, voiced by John Mulaney and Andy Samberg, as they reunite years after their premiere. Rescuers was cancelled. As they search for a missing co-star from the show, their adventure takes them through Hollywood, where they meet cartoon characters from throughout the history of animation. In fact, every screenshot of Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Packed with Easter eggs and visual references, from Seth Rogen’s Pumbaa from CG “live-action” Lion King redo arrive My Little Pony: Friendship Is MagicThe Mane Six ran across a conference floor.
But one of the director’s favorite cameos – and certainly the one he’s most proud of – is a smaller cap that can get lost in the midst of bigger, flashier references. It also pays homage to one of the original creators of Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers TV show, Tad Stones.
“He co-created with someone else named Alan Zaslove in the ’90s,” explains Lonely Island member and director Akiva Schaffer. “Alan was much older, like a mentor, and he passed away at an old age. Tad is still alive and well. And I had to zoom with him on a lot of questions and ask a lot of questions. “
In addition to creating Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue RangersStones also wrote and produced Black Duck and produces other Disney shows, such as Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Hercules and Aladdin sub-anime. He worked on a Disney sequel numbers direct to videosuch as Aladdin 2: Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
Stones does not appear in the film. Instead, his cameo comes in the form of a phone call, a minor reference that might go unnoticed unless you’re familiar with the voices of late years animators. 1980s and early 1990s.
“In the movie, there is a moment when [Chip and Dale] live in [their] were young in Hollywood and they were trying to start their careers, and they got the phone call,” Schaffer told Polygon. “And there was a voice on the other end like a Disney executive saying Chip, Dale, how would you like your own show? And that’s Tad [Stones]of voice. ”
Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers will premiere on Disney Plus on May 20.
