Chrono Cross’s Wonky Gate finally gets some fixes
Almost a year ago, Square Enix released Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition“remake” version of the 1999 classic on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and That switch, as good as the original game is, is also a very bad port.
Here, among other things, are some of the complaints we received last April when we first played games on the OLED Switch:
- Complex, pre-rendered backgrounds now look blurry and blurry
- 3D character models, rendered in higher resolution, stand out like sore thumbs in the new environment
- Fighting often stutters and feels unresponsive
- No save state (but there is autosave in the underworld)
- No option to swap graphic styles on the fly
- FMV is not always an obvious upgrade
- HD fonts are clear but out of place
Understand what I mean? A bad port! The game and the fans deserve better. And even better is what they’re about to get, with Square Enix promising an update coming later this month that will try and fix some of the version’s issues. It’s anyone’s guess how many bugs they’ll fix and how well they’ll fix them, but addressing them is at least a start.
