Claressa Shields has her say on the Franchon Crews-Savannah Marshall match
CLARESSA SHIELDS is encouraging another American boxer to win the UK.
Franchon Crews Dezurn 8-1 (2) lands on UK shores this summer to face Savannah Marshall 12-1 (10) on 1 July at Manchester Arena. Baltimore vs Hartlepool at super middleweight with all sanctioned body belts at stake. Their fight served as the main backing for the Liam Smith-Chris Eubank Jr rematch.
Shields is no stranger to fighting fans this side of the Atlantic having fought here twice in 2022 with wins over Ema Kozin and Marshall. The 28-year-old Michigan middleweight, who also defeated Crews, spoke to boxing scene about how her countrymen turned against the British.
“I believe Franchon will win. Franchon is stronger than Savannah Marshall. And I can say that after experiencing both sides in the ring. She is also mentally stronger than Savannah Marshall.
“Franchon believes 100% in her skill, strength, courage and heart. She’s not going to lay down for Savannah, no matter what. So I believe Franchon will win this fight.”
The Crews have yet to taste defeat since losing to Shields in their debut more than four rounds seven years ago. Meanwhile, Marshall will officially gain 168 lbs for the first time after her defeat to Shields at 160 lbs last October.
