Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett injured shoulder, biceps in a car crash
Cleveland Browns end defense Myles Garrett Superintendent Andrew Berry said in a statement he sprained his shoulder and strained his biceps as well as cuts and bruises in the car crash he was involved in Monday afternoon.
Garrett, 26, was discharged the same day from a Cleveland Clinic after being treated for his injuries. Berry said Tuesday that Garrett has cleared the concussion protocol but that his status for Sunday’s game against Atlanta Falcons are in the air.
The crash happened after Garrett left the Browns’ training facility in Berea, Ohio.
“For now, our focus is on providing Myles with the medical care he needs to return to football activity,” Berry said in the statement. “While we expect him to be back soon, his ability to make it to Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Garrett crashed his 2021 Porsche near Wadsworth, Ohio, around 3pm. The car went to the curb and overturned before coming to a stop. A female passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway patrol said there was no doubt the impairment was caused by drugs or alcohol and that Garrett and the woman were both wearing seat belts. The accident is under investigation.
Full-body footage provided to ESPN by the Medina County Sherriff’s Office shows first responders tending to Garrett shortly after the crash.
First responders were seen examining both of Garrett’s arms as he sat on the grass. Finally, they helped Garrett get off the ground and walked with him slowly to a nearby ambulance.
The female passenger was seen lying down while another responder examined her.
