Coda star and Oscar nominee inspires deaf children to dream big
CODA is one of the hottest movies for best picture at the Oscars. Short for Child of Deaf Adult, the film is about a deaf family with a deaf child who wants to sing.
Troy Kotsur, one of the movie stars, used to teach acting at Marlton School in Los Angeles to deaf or hard of hearing students. After being nominated for an Oscar, he went back to running an improv class.
BBC culture editor Katie Razzall spoke to Troy and writer and director, Sian Heder – nominated for best adapted screenplay – about the film’s impact on deaf culture hearing.
