Comedian Gilbert Gottfried dies aged 67
The world of comedy is in mourning.
Gilbert GottfriedThe legendary voice actor and comic, whose career spanned more than five decades, has passed away at the age of 67, his family announced on April 12.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” a statement was shared on Twitter. “In addition to being the most iconic vocalist in comedy, Gilbert is also a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children.”
The family added, “Although today is a sad day for all of us, please continue to laugh as loud as you can in honor of Gilbert.”
Gottfried started acting in comedies in the 1970s. He joined the cast of Saturday night live in 1980, starred in the 12-episode NBC sketch comedy show.
In addition to his work in stand-up comedy, Gottfried is also a respected voice actor. Most notably, he is the voice of Iago in Disney’s Aladdin and the Aflac duck.
