A camouflaged prototype made its debut in North America at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, which takes place January 28-29. The Type-S will be little more than an “Acura-ized” version of the model. Honda Civic Type-R. No notable details about the powertrain or features have been announced – just the fact that the car will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that “makes over 300 hp and combines exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential,” according to a press release. For reference, the Honda Civic Type-R’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It’s possible the Integra could get a few more ponies as a way to differentiate it from its “mainstream” sibling, especially since both vehicles use a hatchback body style.
At the 24 Hours of Daytona, Acura will compete in the GTD class with a pair of NSX GT3 Evo22 models. GTD-class cars resemble similar production cars, with Acura’s entries using a turbocharged V6. The NSX GT3s will compete with the likes of Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, McLaren and Porsche.
New for 2023 is the GTP class, which will include prototype racers. Acura is bringing their electrified ARX-06, which will go head-to-head with concepts from BMW, Cadillac and Porsche.
The Acura Integra Type-S 2024 is expected to launch this summer. Pricing will be revealed closer to that point, but expect the sticker to be several thousand dollars more than the $43,295 Honda wants for the Civic Type-R, excluding additional dealer markings.
CG says:
While the Integra Type-S is sure to be a hit to drive, is it different enough from the Civic Type-R to justify the inevitably high price tag? Arguably more exciting are the two electric concept race cars as we expect more of these to start hitting the track in the near future. Hopefully some of the more exotic technology that makes these cars work will eventually find its way into consumer vehicles.
