More news and reviews about Dodge
Hornet is another name from Dodge’s past. This moniker is derived from a full-size automobile produced by the long-defunct Hudson brand between 1951-1957. The First Generation (1951-1954) Hornet became known to the public as the character voiced by the late Paul Newman in the Disney-Pixar film. car.
In 2006, Dodge revived the Hornet name for the first time with a concept car sold exclusively in Europe. It is slightly larger than the Mini Cooper of the same year, and its shape is reminiscent of the Kia Soul, which will launch two years later.
The 2023 version will share most of its engineering with 2024 tones Stellantis’ premium word Alfa Romeo trademark. It will also be one of the most powerful vehicles in its class. The entry-level GT has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard. The only other small SUV to reach this level of power is the Hyundai Kona N, which starts at $5,000 more than the Hornet.
Launched as a 2024 model is the Hornet R/T, using the Tonale powertrain. A 1.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine combines with an electric motor to produce a net total of 288 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. As with the GT, AWD is standard, but the R/T sends power to the road through a six-speed automatic transmission. The model will include a feature Dodge calls “PowerShot,” which temporarily adds 30 horsepower, which the company claims will produce a 0-60 mph time of just 5.6 seconds. .

Other performance-related features for the Hornet include shock absorbers and brakes from Koni and Brembo, respectively; dynamic torque vector; and specific tweaks to the suspension and steering.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, along with a 10.25-inch infotainment system powered by Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 kit. The available Harmon Kardon sound system provides 465 watts of power output through 14 speakers and a subwoofer.
Dodge Hornet GT 2023 starts at $29,995. The higher-spec GT Plus, which includes leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof and an integrated navigation system, will cost you $35,490. The producer destination fee is $1,595. These models are expected to hit dealerships in the next few weeks. Pricing for R/T 2024 will be revealed closer to the on-sale date in early summer 2023.
CG says:
Although Dodge shows up late to the small SUV party, the Hornet looks like it will make a pretty grand entrance. That standard power plus the promise of a well-tuned driving experience made us very eager to spend time behind the wheel. The only real disappointment, at least right now, is the rather anonymous styling. We expect designers to model the production car after the 2006 concept, which will give buyers a new alternative to cars like the Kia Soul.
