In the Tiruppur market, cotton yarn prices fell by Rs 2-5/kg as mills and traders were forced to offer lower prices. They are having difficulty finding buyers due to slower demand from the textile and apparel industry. However, traders saw stronger hopes from ICE cotton. A merchant from Tiruppur said Yarn2Fashion, “If ICE cotton remains stronger, India’s cotton and yarn demand may increase. Spinning mills received a number of inquiries. The factories of Gujarat have received orders to supply cotton yarn. The market will take at least two weeks to react positively.”
South India cotton yarn market witnessed a downtrend as prices fell ₹2-5/kg in Tiruppur but remained stable in Mumbai. Importers showed interest due to the increase in ICE cotton prices. Gujarat factories have received orders from China. Traders expect support if ICE cotton remains strong, but demand for the fabric is critical to the yarn market.
Prices in the Tiruppur market are recorded at Rs 268-273/kg (excluding GST) for 30-count combed cotton yarn, Rs 280-285/kg for 34-count combed cotton yarn, 290- Rs 295/kg for 40-count combed cotton yarn 242-246 Rs/kg for 30-count carded cotton yarn, Rs 251-254/kg for 34-count carded cotton yarn and Rs 256-260/ kg for 40-count carded cotton yarn, by Fiber2Fashion’s TexPro Market Insights Tool.
In Mumbai, cotton yarn prices were stable due to weak demand. Traders are assessing the impact of export orders received by factories based in Gujarat. Market sources said that carded and carded compact yarns of numbers 21, 30, 31, 32 will be exported to China. But demand for gray fabrics and finished fabrics is very slow, which is the main basis for market sentiment. Factories and traders are facing losses. Sources say 5,000 tonnes (200 containers) of cotton yarn will be exported to China. However, the market has not yet reacted to this development, as there are differences of opinion on the impact of export orders.
In Mumbai, the price of 60 warp and weft carded cotton was stable at Rs 1,480-1,515 and Rs 1,340-1,380/5 kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices include Rs 345-350/kg for 60 combed warp, Rs 1,440-1,480/4.5 kg for 80 carded cotton yarn (weft), Rs 273-278/kg for yarn 44/46 carded cotton (warp), Rs 258 – Rs-268/kg for yarn count 40/41 (warp) and Rs 282-286/kg for combed yarn of count 40 /41 (warp), along TexPro.
In Gujarat, cotton prices remained stable amid reports of yarn export orders from China. According to trade sources, spinning mills are yet to consider further demand and remain cautious in purchasing more. Currently, the market is seeing limited buying power. Incoming cotton is also limited. Cotton is traded at Rs 59,000-60,000 per 356 kg candy. Cotton shipments to Gujarat are estimated at 24,000-26,000 bales of 170 kg grade, with total shipments to India estimated at 90,000-95,000 bales of 170 kg.
