Dana Carvey Brilliantly Debates Himself as Both Biden and Trump on ‘Kimmel’
There is a famous story from the 1992 election season about Saturday night live. Dana Carvey’s iconic impression of President George HW Bush was well established and his co-star Phil Hartman was playing challenger Bill Clinton. But when Ross Perot entered the race as a third-party candidate, Carvey ended up double duty in the show’s three-way debate sketch. While newcomer David Spade played Perot in the live shots, Carvey pre-recorded the billionaire candidate’s lines for the close-up shots.
So when Carvey came back for Host a Monday night guest for Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, he decided to make that feat by playing the only two roles in a preview of what the 2024 debates between Joe Biden and Donald Trump might look like.
After giving a few jokes about Biden and Trump before Tonight’s program Johnny Carson host Carvey turns the debate around, moderated by Kimmel’s security guard, Guillermo, of course.
As the camera cuts back and forth, Carvey expertly transforms into each candidate using nothing but a bad wig and his impressive imitation skills. He plays Biden as a goofy old man that mixes Kamala Harris and Harrison Ford and Trump as a much more lunatic who screams about Kim Jong Un’s “tiny legs” and says, ” I like my people like I like my voters: white and sloppy.”
In the end, Carvey made a choice that few Americans will be satisfied with coming 2024. While Biden appears to have embraced the tagline, “Smallpox: It’s Dinner,” Trump sent potential voters. with the message, “God bless me and God bless my wonderful penis.”
“Good night, America,” Guillermo told viewers as it ended. “We were damned.”
