Dario Usuga ‘Otoniel’: Alleged Colombian drug lord extradited to the US, source says
Usuga is considered by many to be the boss of the “Clan del Golfo,” a powerful drug cartel that controls the cocaine supply routes into Mexico and the United States. He is expected to appear before a US judge in the next few hours.
According to the Colombian Attorney General’s office, at the time of his arrest, the alleged gang leader was facing at least 122 counts of drug trafficking, criminal association, murder and money laundering.
His extradition was approved by presidential decree after the Colombian Council of State rejected appeals from several alleged victims of Usuga’s crimes who wanted to see him tried in Colombian courts.
The so-called Clan del Golfo includes former members of terrorist organizations and “uses violence and intimidation to control drug trafficking routes, cocaine processing laboratories, ship departure points.” highways and secret landing sites,” according to the State Department.
