David “El General” Cuellar Unbeaten by KO against Ricardo “Big Bam” Blandon Sunday!


Via Ken Hissner: In Cancun, Mexico, Sunday against ESPN+ Bob Arum (Top Rated) and Cancun Boxing in the Main Event undefeated David “El General” Cuellar of Queretaro, Mexico knocked out Ricardo “Big Bam” Blandon of Managua, Nicaragua in the fifth round for the WBC International Super Flyweight title.

In the main event, WBC Silver junior champion David “El General” Cuellar, 21-0 (14), of Queretaro, Mexico, knocked out Ricardo “Big Bam” Blandon, 15-5 (9), of Managua, Nicaragua, in the fifth round of the ten scheduled rounds.

In the second round, Blandon landed five non-retaliatory punches to Cuellar’s chin, winning the round. In the third inning, both mixed well, with Blandon making another round.

In the fourth round, Cuellar went to the body with the top lane to go forward.

In the fifth inning, after almost a minute, a flurry of punches from Cuellar brought Blandon to his knees for counting eight points.

Blandon chased Cuellar, fighting him for the punch for the remainder of the round. In the sixth inning, a left hook from Cuellar reached the midfield and knocked Blandon to his knees to count the numbers.

In the mixed event, Featherweight Christopher Lopez, 15-0-1 (10), of Guadalajara, MEX, easily defeated Dixon Flores, 17-9-3 (6), of Juigalpa, Nicaragua, over ten rounds.

In the first two innings, after a slow start in the second and third rounds, Lopez unleashed wide punches as Flores played the imported opponent.

In the fourth round, Flores was finally able to compete despite losing the round. In the fifth round, Flores finally had the advantage, returning a half-dozen punches with no response until the last seconds, being hit with a snake in the chin from Lopez but winning the round.

In the sixth inning, Lopez dropped dozens of unreturned punches when Flores was on the rope but couldn’t push him away. In the seventh and eighth innings, Lopez continued to outplay the two. In the final ninth and tenth innings, Lopez went all out in the final minutes of the knockout, as Flores hit the ropes, but his puncher couldn’t do it.

This writer’s score is 99-91.

Junior Lightweight Rosario “Pinocho” Sanchez, 17-0 (10), of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, MEX, beat Francisco Lucero, 10-4-4 (7), of Hermosillo, MEX, over eight rounds.

In the first two innings, Sanchez let Lucero fend off good goals and Sanchez was better in the middle of the round. In the third round with Sanchez against the ropes, he fought his way, assisting Lucero. In the fourth inning, at the last minute, Sanchez made a right smack on Lucero’s chin, injuring him momentarily as Lucero fought back.

In the fifth inning, Sanchez in a close quarter, landed with a final punch, a left hook on Lucero’s chin continued to throw out. In the sixth inning, it was Lucero’s best minute but was flawed as Sanchez was able to deflect him to the right and counterattack with a left putt to Lucero’s chin.

In the seventh round, it was all Lucero bleeding from Sanchez’s mouth, who was starting to fade but landed the last punch of the round, a left hook to Lucero’s chin.

In the 1/8 and final round, Sanchez continued to try to win the final bell while Lucero did not have the strength to finish him but only advanced to the round alone.

Score in Spanish is not known to this writer 78-74 Sanchez.
Middleweight Junior Oziel Santoyo, 13-2-1 (8), of Monterrey, MEX, lost to Brandon “Turbo” Perez, 7-1-1 (2), of Alcolman, MEX, over eight rounds.

In the first inning, Santoyo used an effective lead right in front of Perez’s chin, who was much taller and returned too little to win the round.

In the second round, while claiming the chin, Perez countered with a punch to Santoyo’s chin, sending him into the rope, which he grabbed with both gloves as a knockdown. He turned, giving it to Perez with a punch after the bell.

In the third round, Perez threw his final punch as the bell rang while Santoyo missed the opportunity, receiving a second warning from the referee. In the fourth round, Santoyo lost a point at the bell after a pretty good round by both fighters, in which Perez also landed right towards Santoyo’s chin.

In the fifth and sixth innings, it ended, with Santoyo having the upper hand with his bodywork. In the seventh round, Perez had an advantage. In the eighth and final round, Perez started to use a collision with oncoming Santoyo, who overtook Perez.
