De La Hoya reacts to Eddie Hearn wanting Munguia for Berlanga: “Good luck”
Via Jake Tiernan: Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya has wished Eddie Hearn “good luck” as he tries to land Jaime Munguia for super-middleweight rival Edgar Berlanga’s next bout after a decisive twelfth round win. Jason Quigley last Saturday night at the Hula Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
Berlanga & Hearn called Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) after the game, saying they wanted him next. When De La Hoya made it clear on Twitter that they wouldn’t take Munguia, Hearn said he would talk to DAZN and then come back to him to once again discuss making the Berlanga-Munguia fight.
In other words, DAZN will put pressure on De La Hoya to have him play Berlanga against Munguia. It is unclear what the consequences would be for the Golden Boy if De La Hoya refused to let Berlanga fight Munguia.
Eddie Hearn: So he’s a complete idiot, to be honest with you, because his job is to fight well for DAZN, and he didn’t really do that to Jaime Munguia, did he? He’s probably the worst career manager I’ve seen in boxing history, Jaime Munguia.
“His list of opponents has been terrible lately aside from Derevyanchenko, who I know is a friend of his, but he’s also a lackluster fighter, so what I’m going to do with Oscar De La Hoya is I’ll say it. Talk to his bosses, and I’ll get back to you.
Edgar Berlanga: “Oscar has to keep his mouth shut. He is [Hearn] the best in the business. Everyone understands. Eddie is from the UK. He comes from another side of the world. He went to America and took over, and he took it over quickly.
“De La Hoya is a madman. One day he’s your friend, and the next day he wants to talk about you. Obviously, you’ve seen what happened to Canelo. He signed a tripartite agreement with PBC. So he’s on another network. What we will do?
“We have people like Munguia, people like Golovkin, people like John Ryder that we can execute quickly. That’s right,” Berlanga said when asked if he thought De La Hoya was bitter to him. I spoke to him before signing Eddie.
#lonesomeEddie you can’t give @EdgarBernangaJr to Canelo and now your Munguías name? Good luck. 😂

“He was a guy with a Twitter finger. He wants to type his ** off. Calm down, buddy. Relax. The love you guys gave me during the fighting week. Amount of attention. Berlanga said when asked if he was satisfied with Hearn.
“I will support my promoter no matter who likes it or not. This is the guy, and we’re sure to make a big deal out of this fight. I have left a mark. From the twelfth round, I started from the twelfth round, and it’s time to play. These guys are definitely going to be in trouble.
“No,” Berlanga said when asked if Quigley was his toughest match yet. “I feel my hardest fight was Angulo because he is a tough fighter who always comes forward and hits well.
“He [Quigley] just had a specific game plan, which is to move around. I tip my hat to him. He is an excellent warrior. He stuck there, especially in the twelfth round. He’s hit some big hits.
“I broke his nose with a stab. I broke his orbital bone with a stab. I’m so glad I can get out of the twelfth lap and come back to the gym after a week and just go for a jog.”
listen: “The fact that De La Hoya has been talking about me all week is great. Do not forget. My track is probably 80% English. So if Oscar De La Hoya can help with my profile here, that would be great. I just hope that he will be fine.”
