Decades of Garry’s Mod Nintendo Uploads Are Disappearing

The source of the takedown request represents the worst-case scenario for the community; According to Facepunch Studios creator Garry Newman, instead of coming from copyright trolls, the takedowns are coming from Nintendo itself. “I have been assured that the takedown has been verified by Nintendo as legal,” Newman wrote on X, adding that removals will continue as planned. “So sorry.”
Facepunch has its own work cut out for it. “It took us 20 years of uploads,” the studio wrote on the game's cover. Steam page. “If you want to help us by deleting your Nintendo-related uploads and never uploading them again, that would help us a lot.”
Neither Nintendo nor Newman responded to requests for comment.

The company pursues emulator creator, homebrew tools, fan-made game, parodyand more; even major mod platforms avoid hosting content that they fear may attract Nintendo copyright claims. Facepunch said the request to remove these items was “fair enough”.
“This is Nintendo's content and what they allow and don't allow is up to them,” the developer wrote in its announcement. “They don't want you playing with that stuff in Garry's Mod—that's their decision, we have to respect that and remove as much as possible.”
In the Garry's Mod community, some users are trying to save whatever they can.
Since news broke that Nintendo was behind the takedown, new add-ons have appeared in the store: stuff like stickers that say “Fuck Nintendo,” or a re-skin for trash bins branded “Nintendo Office ”. It's unclear whether these new additions will also be removed.
